Bobcats topped by Thunderbirds

The first and third quarter spelled doom for the Western Plains High School Bobcat Boys Friday in Bushton against the Quiviria Heights High School Thunderbirds.

The T-Birds put up 15 in the first and 25 in the third, while the Bobcats only scored seven and three respectively.

WPHS lost, 57-29.

The one bright spot of the evening was that the Cats held the Thunderbirds to only three points in the fourth. Of course, the eight-minute quarter only took eight minutes to play due to the 30-point “mercy rule,” which says if one team is ahead by 30 or more during any point of the fourth quarter the clock will run continuously for the duration of the period.

Head Coach Jerod Horchem cleared his bench during the fourth quarter to give everyone a chance to play.

Sophomore Asael Rivera got in and played in his first-ever varsity basketball game. He scored four points.

Freshman Dylan Moore also earned varsity points. He scored two.

Junior Joel Hernandez put in one free throw.

Otherwise, the only other players to score were the two senior leaders, Shane Corsair and Eric Dysinger.

Corsair put in 14, and Dysinger put in eight.

On Monday the Bobcats will be traveling to Palco to play in the opening round of the Cheyenne Conference Invitational Tournament. The Cats play the Ness City High School Eagles at 5:30 p.m.
