Cats come up short Friday night

Friday the Western Plains High School Bobcats hosted the Otis-Bison Cougars for the WPHS 2010 Basketball Senior Night.

Wins would have been good, but it wasn’t in the cards for the Bobcat squads.

The Lady Bobcats lost, but the margin wasn’t horrible. The final score stood at 48-32. Junior Beth Lutters had a team-high nine points, and junior Britny Pfannenstiel had eight.

Sophomores Ruth Mendez and Kate Hagans were not able to play due to illness and injury respectively; however, ever other Lady Cat contributed at least two points.

The Cougars weren’t as nice to the Bobcat Boys. WPHS lost, 73-26.

As usual, the scoring was led by a senior. Eric Dysinger had 11 points. Fellow senior and usual point leader Shane Corsair was held to only two points, though, both of which came from the charity stripe.

One bright spot of the game was when senior Thomas Heily drained a three-pointer, a shot he has been looking for all season. Also, speed-demon and sophomore Asael Rivera put up four points off of steals.

Both Bobcat teams now enter regional play beginning Monday.
