On April 16 the Western Plains High School Track and Field Team took the short journey down the highway to Ness City High School for Ness City Meet.
The boys’ half of the team didn’t place in any event, but the girls saw some success.
Sophomore Kate Hagans took fifth in the 800 Meter Run, the 4×100 Meter Relay team of freshman Ashley Parker, freshman Katie Showalter, junior Bryanda Martinez and Hagans took fifth, and the 4×400 Meter Relay team composed of the same runners took sixth place.
Though the finishes might not seem too impressive, Coach Pat Flax said focusing purely on places isn’t the best way to gauge the team’s success.
Eight of the girls earn personal-best times or distances.
Hagans’ 800 Meter finish was a best for her. Other personal-best finishes were junior Shelby Miller in discus and Hagans in javelin (both of these girls finished 8th out of 30 throwers), freshman Renee Horton in javelin, Katie Bretton in shot put, Showalter’s split in the 4×400 Meter Relay, Parker in the 100 Meter High Hurdles and junior Kaitlyn Flax in the 200 Meter Dash.
Also, the 4×100 Meter and 4×400 Meter Relay Teams checked in with the best relay times yet this season.
Friday the Bobcat Track Teams will head to Montezuma to compete.
